Reduce Neck and Back Pain
Video by Dr. John Wertish
Shoulder range of motion and back strength is essential to reduce back and neck pain. Poor posture can lead to improper alignment of joints and can impact muscle compensation. This compensation can lead to pain by changing mechanics of the neck, shoulders, and upper back. Chiropractic care is essential to get our joints to move with full range of motion to allow us to heal. Muscle’s that support our skeletal system and joints need to be strengthened to create stability in our joints. In the clinic, we work with neck and upper back pain every day, and a common stress is sitting at a desk. We want to hold these exercises for 30 seconds with each position to help combat the stress of sitting. Try this exercise next time you are at your desk or feel like you are slouching.
Below are a few quotes from research on hip range of motion and back pain.
“Neck pain is reported by many laborers who are at risk of experiencing musculoskeletal disorders due to muscle stiffness and hypokinetics.”
“A lower trapezius strengthening exercise program is an effective method with clinical significance for reducing the level of neck dysfunction, and improving the postural alignment, muscle thickness, and contraction rate of the lower trapezius muscle.”
