Omega-3 to Decrease Inflammation

Omega-3 to Decrease Inflammation

Breakfast is often referred to as the most important meal of the day, and for good reason. It provides the body with essential nutrients, like Omega 3 and energy to start the day off right and decrease inflammation. However, as I tell my patients in St. Louis Park, choosing balanced nutrients is key to start the day right. We must stay away from an influx of processed sugars and carbohydrates of a typical American breakfast usually provides as the first meal of the day, so we don’t spike our blood sugars and feel the resulting crash before lunch.  Chia seeds are an amazing source of fiber, plant-based protein, and ALA (an omega-3 fatty acid). “Chia seeds are packed with health benefits such as antioxidant capacity, and hypotensive, hypoglycemic, and reduce cholesterol levels.” Adding Chia seeds in your diet is a great way to start the day, getting proper proteins, fats, and carbohydrates to support your bodies systems and needs while also staying away from the processed sugars. If you need to sweeten up the meal, I always like to add in organic fruits but keep them light to keep the sugars down and keep inflammation(pain) away.

“This seed also has a high concentration of proteins and essential amino acids, becoming a promising source of bioactive peptides.”

Chia Seed Pudding Recipe
  • 2 tbsp of chia seeds
  • ½ cup of almond milk
  • 1 scoop of protein powder
  • Leave in fridge overnight
  • Top with organic fruit in the morning
