Chiropractor's Tips to Restore Motion

As a chiropractor, one of our main objectives is to restore proper motion to the joints of the spine.  For those of you that haven’t heard our doctors talk about Hilton’s law, there is a law in the body that specifically states that your joints need to go through a full range of motion in order for your muscles and nerves to function and heal properly. The next level to that, if we are unable to get proper joint function, we may need some assistance through Manual Therapy to help decrease muscle tightness.  However, I wanted to also highlight some research that shows Manual Therapy can be more than a tool to decrease muscle tightness, it can also be used to restore motion and decrease overall stress in the body.  We are always talking about how our stress levels can impact the inflammation in our body, and its that inflammation that can cause pain.

“In the United States the five leading causes of death have been linked to stress: heart disease, cancer, lung ailments, cirrhosis of the liver and suicide. Therefore, therapeutic techniques that reduce the harmful consequences of stress and facilitate effective coping mechanisms are essential to healthy living.”

“Our review of the literature indicated that massage therapy may have a beneficial effect on several physiological variables, specifically salivary cortisol and heart rate, when assessed immediately pre-post massage “

At Minnesota Chiro Health, we examine the person, and consider not only how their spine is functioning, but also what the diet looks like as well as how they manage stress to determine what the root cause of the problem is.  This helps us to ensure we are getting to the root cause of the dysfunction in the body, and addressing all aspects of health to get our patients better, longer.
